Tara Anglican School for Girls

Boarding

"We hope that the boarding community is considered by the girls to be their ‘second family’. This ‘home away from home’ atmosphere has been our tradition; we aim for this to continue."
Julia Mills, Director of Boarding

Tara offers short term and full time boarding to girls from Years 5 to 12. Our Boarding House has a capacity of 60 girls which is small enough for every girl to be well-known and nurtured. The girls and boarding staff live in the same building and this allows them to engage and bond - just like one big happy family.

Parents, friends and Tara Old Girls are encouraged to join the boarders for meals and mothers are welcome to stay overnight in our guest rooms. Tara's Boarding House enjoys a "home away from home" atmosphere in relaxed and caring surrounds.

  • Tara's qualified academic teaching staff give professional support and supervision of homework during "Study Time"
  • Living onsite allows boarders to make more effective use of their school day with easy access to the school's resources
  • Learning to live with others in a safe, caring and stimulating environment. Tara's boarding experience develops life-long friendships.

Our Boarding House offers an excellent opportunity for girls coming from isolated and remote areas, from the country or from overseas, to live and study in a secure and stimulating environment. Our boarders also enjoy access to the following school facilities:

Claridge Library: Tara boarders have access to the print and audio-visual material and online resources after hours, under teacher/librarian supervision.

Information Technology: Tara boarders have access to the School’s computers and network.

Sporting areas: Tara's gymnasium, fitness centre, tennis and netball courts, pool, ovals and over twelve hectares of grounds are available for boarders to use before and after school and on the weekends.

Performing Arts: Boarders have ready access to the school’s practice studios and can easily participate in Tara’s before and after-school musical and drama groups and in the co productions with The King’s School.

Day students are also welcome to board short term to take advantage of the academic support and the wide range of extra and cocurricular activities available at the school.

Tara's boarders enjoy comfortable accommodation: Junior School boarders have spacious dormitories which are carefully designed for privacy. Senior boarders in Years 11 and 12 have individual rooms with computers in each room. Some Year 10 girls have twin rooms. There are Senior and Junior areas with TV, video, exercise equipment, games, cooking facilities and lounge area.
