Tara Building Development Projects

Most Recent Developments
Our vision is being realised. The Mouleric Playing Field (adjacent to the Boarding House) is a specifically developed grassed playing field – suitable for Hockey, Football, Softball and Athletics was completed in Term 1, 2009. Students now enjoy using this area during the school week and for Saturday Sport. Thank you to everyone involved who contributed to the funds raised to develop this playing field.

Thanks to the many donations from the Tara Community to Building Fund, the Senior School Cafeteria, The Bowern Room, was completed and officially opened in March 2007. The Bowern Room is a unique space for learning, bringing to Tara the Business Enterprise education program, an extension of our academic and pastoral program. This initiative has two aims, the first is for the students to learn financial literacy by integrating business theory and strategy in a practical context. The second is for the girls to learn business ethics, leadership and team building skills through 'hands-on experience'. This Business Enterprise education initiative is preparing our Tara girls to be effective leaders in their home, professional and wider communities.

Future Developments
Our Senior Learning Centre (SLC) is the next building project that is currently being built and has been funded through the generous support of our community through the Building Fund. The SLC is scheduled for completion by October 2009. The vision for this building is to become a modern education facility suitable for a modern syllabus. This space for learning will help staff to teach the senior girls in Year 12 self discipline, team work and to make wise choices. In this building, we hope to be preparing our young women for further, tertiary education and adult independence. Our initial plans are for the SLC to be secure facility for independent learning and to feature:
· break out rooms for project work and assignments
· a common room for refreshment and social interaction for Year 12 students
· abundant resources: computers, office and digital equipment
· direct access to the library and its resources

Junior School Extensions (Stage 2) development will follow the Senior (School) Learning Centre building. The aim of this extension is to accommodate the extra classes in Year 5 and for teaching the Junior School girls Science and Technology for the digital age. This development project is likely to feature additional classrooms in a flexible learning space. The extensions will include:
· science laboratory
· integrated technology
· extension to the library
· a canteen
