Summer Classic Champion: Tara Anglican School for Girls year 7 student Holly Stott has come a long way in 2017, after her horse Chat had an anxious start to 2017 bolting and refusing to jump. Picture: Ashley Truscott.

The 2017 Summer Classic Junior Showjumping champion is 13-year-old Holly Stott.

The Carlingford resident has only been showjumping for two years and showed the horse riding community she is one to keep an eye on.

“I jumped 90 centimetres and one metre on the Saturday and didn’t place – but on the Sunday in the speed round I was the fastest,” she said.

“I had two rounds clear, no time faults and I didn’t hit any poles.”

First prize included a $100 voucher, a blue ribbon, a horse rug and a bag of feed.

Holly trains twice a week after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and said she “sometimes goes and free rides as well on the weekends” but mainly spends the weekends at competitions.

“I rode when I was younger but stopped. I fell in love with it again two years ago and now I want to do really well,” she said.

“The Olympics would be amazing. You have to jump about 160 centimetres at the Olympics.”

Unfortunately Holly and her horse Chat had a rocky start to the year as Chat suffered from anxiety.

“Changing coaches has helped,” she said.

“I would like to thank my new coach Tallara Barwick and her partner David Cameron who helped make this possible.

“Also my mum, who has come to every single competition with me.”
