Performing Arts

From the Early Learning Centre to Year 6 students are involved in reading and composing music, playing instruments, singing and movement. All girls are involved in diverse classroom music programs with links to many different subject areas. Music is an integral part of every girl’s Tara experience. In Years 3-4 our girls are immersed in learning an instrument of their choice.

There are many opportunities to participate in bands, string ensembles, autumn as well as spring concerts, eisteddfods, combined inter-school events and bi-annual musicals.  Our specialised music room is a large open space, well equipped to serve the girls in a wide range of musical activities.  Our music staff and tutors demonstrate excellence and initiative in the opportunities they create for the girls, always caring and mindful of the musical needs and interests of each individual.

The bands and ensembles of the Tara Junior School include:

  • Mary Elizabeth Choir (For all girls in Years 3-6)
  • Ellangowan Choir (For all girls in Kindergarten-Year 2)
  • Cedars Concert Band (For girls in Years 3-6)
  • Roseneath Band (A training band for Junior School girls)
  • Arcadia Strings (An ensemble for Junior School string players)

Tara participates each year in an annual Band Day Festival with The King’s School and Burnside Public School. The students performed many pieces both as a School and as a combined band with the other schools.

In 2015, Tara Junior School performed The Little Mermaid Musical. All girls in Years 3-6 will be participating again in a musical performance in 2017. For more information on Tara's performing arts activities and the Tara Enrichment Centre please visit these pages.
