Christian Life

Tara has a long and strong history as a Christian school. This core aspect of our identity permeates everything that we do as a school. In her time at Tara, every girl is introduced to the tenets of the Christian faith. As an internationally-minded school community, we practice tolerance and open-mindedness, embracing families of all faiths into our school. We are keen for every girl to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the way faith works in the lives of individuals.

At school the girls enjoy starting the week with a lively Chapel service, to which our parents and families are warmly invited. In addition to this, the girls explore Christian ideas through Christian Studies lessons and units of inquiry. Acquiring knowledge though the study of people, themes and books of the Bible enables our girls to acquire a deeper understanding of what a Christian worldview really means. We ask ourselves difficult questions like: as a result of this unit of inquiry, what would I want my students to understand about the world and their place in it, God’s grace, and living lives of purpose? This is compatible with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) philosophy of constructivism and lifelong learning.

Tara has a close relationship with Crusaders, an interdenominational Christian organisation working with students in independent schools of Australia. Teachers run Cru Group every week where students can choose to come and engage in a fun lunchtime activity time. Girls in the Junior School also attend Cru camps, where they have the opportunity to engage in Christian Discover sessions as well as outdoor education experiences that meet curriculum-based outcomes, all set in a beautiful natural environment where the emphasis is fun and challenge.
