Performing Arts

Tara girls have an enthusiasm for Performing Arts that almost knows no bounds. Every year the calendar is dotted with performance events that are exceptional in their quality whether it be a music ensemble performance such as Junior and Senior Choirs, Training Bands, Concert Bands, Handbells and String Orchestra or a full scale drama production such as a stage play or musical theatre extravaganza. Fabulous shows with spectacular chorus numbers, beautiful singing from the principal actors and incredibly energetic dancing throughout, supported by amazing lighting and costumes, give each Tara girl many opportunities to develop her creative talents.

Students in the Performing Arts at Tara take academic studies in the subjects of Music and Drama. They enjoy a rich program of classroom experiences, supplemented by an ever expanding co-curricular program.  It is always so energising to see the many students being inspired to find self-expression and inner confidence. Both in the classroom, in the theatre, the stage and on the set, Tara students have embraced the numerous opportunities presented to them.

All students at Tara are offered the chance to experience the extraordinary opportunities and possibilities of drama, dance and music performance in a range of academic, co and extra curricular performance contexts.

At Tara, we place great importance on participating in the Performing Arts, giving girls the chance to discover the joys of music, song and dance, to enjoy the unique camaraderie of a cast or ensemble and to gain confidence by performing in front of an audience.

Past Tara productions performed at The Riverside Theatre have included: The Pajama Game, Me and My Girl, Beauty and the Beast, Godspell, Oklahoma! and The Sound of Music. Year 11 girls are also offered the opportunity to perform in co productions with The King's School. Past co productions include: Jesus Christ Superstar, Hairspray, Xanadu, Little Shop of Horrors, The Pirates of Penzance, The Gondoliers, Oliver, Grease, The Mikado, My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof.

We have choirs and instrumental groups where girls can perform and compete at eisteddfods as well as school and interschool events and festivals. Students are offered the opportunity to participate in our renowned musicals or drama productions. Many of our girls enjoy and excel in the performing arts and each year take HSC Drama or Music electives; some achieve honours by selection for 'ENCORE' and 'OnSTAGE' which showcase top of state performances.

Tara's teachers are there to recognise, nurture, assess and ultimately inspire each student to give to an audience, an effective and rewarding performance work.
