Christian Faith
& Values

Underpinning Tara Anglican School for Girls are our strong commitments to an outstanding educational offering for girls and our authentic Christian faith which values individuals and recognises their uniqueness.

Tara is a Christian learning community, characterised by excellence which encourages, equips and empowers girls to achieve, serve and thrive in a dynamic world.

‘Love God, Love Others’ is a summary phrase used regularly here at Tara as foundational to our Christian Identity. Taken from Matthew 22: 34-40, we seek to emulate this in who we are and how we live.

Tara has a strong and proud tradition as a Christian school in the Anglican tradition. As such we envisage education to be more than the impartation of knowledge, and rather a contextual formation of our young women. This means that the knowledge and skills that we foster are developed in direct connection with a Christian way of seeing the world and the accompanying practices and behaviours. This development occurs within the context of a Christian community of care. Our educational practices, in turn, are strengthened by this approach which properly takes account of the whole person and not merely one's mind.

Christian faith is integrated into all aspects of School life, including the Curriculum, Pastoral programs, behaviours and friendships, and our leadership development.

Our School Values also reflect this integrated approach:

Affirmation

Appreciating/expressing the value of self and other. Tara accepts, nurtures and respects every individual. Girls thrive in our safe and encouraging environment. The Tara community seeks to model kind and inclusive behaviours.

Service

Tara girls exhibit gratitude and understand their responsibility to serve others within the Tara community and the wider world.

Integrity

Tara cherishes trustworthiness. Aligning with God’s word, all in the Tara community are relied upon to act with moral and ethical principles.

Opportunity

Tara girls embrace the broad range of experiences provided at School and in the wider world to explore their passions and broaden their horizons.

Structured Activities

Every student attends a weekly Chapel service, led by our Chaplain and our Chaplaincy team. Students engage in Christian worship, Prayer and Bible teaching. Chapel reflects aspects of traditional Christian worship in content, whilst being deliberately interactive, creative and directed to the needs and development of our students.

We come together as an entire school for Christian celebrations at Easter and Christmas, as well as commencing every Term with a School Chapel, for staff and students alike.

At Tara all students participate in Christian Studies classes. From ELC through to Year 12, students learn to read and study the Bible, aspects of theology and Christian world view. Throughout the Christian Studies courses we seek to apply and connect this learning to many applications and scenarios through our engagement with people and the world.

Many voluntary groups also exist, including weekly ‘Crew’ groups, in both Junior and Senior Schools, Discipleship, Bible Study and Prayer groups. These groups offer deeper relationships between students in a faith context and the opportunity to explore questions of meaning and purpose. Our boarders also have a weekly interactive devotional time led by our Senior School Youth Worker.

As a Christian learning community, we welcome students and families from many different backgrounds and faiths into our School. Our hope for all our students is that they will begin to engage and think critically about the significant questions of the world and their place within it.

Our Onsite

Chapel Building

We are very blessed to have our own Chapel building. A long held dream by our Principal and Council, the Chapel opened in 2017, and provides a space fitting to the worship of God, whilst also being extremely useful for a variety of faith based activities.

The Chapel is located at the entrance to the School, highlighting the prominence of Christian Faith in our identity. Located between our Junior and Senior School sites our Christian identity links and unites us across age and location.
