As you approach the grounds of Tara you will first notice the spacious, green fields that surround our school and the lovely trees full of beautiful native birds. The school is set on 10 hectares of land and provides the girls with many opportunities including nearby bushwalking tracks. On arrival, you will be greeted at the reception area by our friendly boarding staff who aim to make the girls 'home away from home' as comfortable as possible. The staff are well known by the girls and have many strengths to offer. The house is purpose built and is continually being upgraded to ensure the facilities are comfortable and appealing.
Our facilities include:
Accommodation for girls up to Year 10 is dormitory style on two levels, while Years 11 and 12 have single rooms. Years 5-8 have a dormitory on the lower level and Years 9-10 share the upper level dormitory. Each girl in the dorm has her own space, which includes a comfortable bed, desk and storage, a lockable wardrobe and air conditioning. The bathrooms are all close to the sleeping areas. The single rooms for Years 11-12 are designed to offer the students privacy and comfort. They include larger storage areas than the dorms and a lovely outlook onto the extensive school grounds.
There are plenty of recreational areas scattered around the Boarding House, each with their own comfortable chairs, television sets, DVD players, refrigerators and tea and coffee making facilities. Pianos are available for recreational use and practice. There is also access to a table tennis area, trampoline, the School’s Fitness Centre during the week, and the school pool (with supervision) and tennis and basketball courts are also available to the boarders outside of school hours and on weekends.
If you are unwell, we are fortunate to have the school’s Health Centre situated within Eggleton House. The School Nurse is on site during weekdays from 8am – 4pm and on call after hours for the boarders when she can be phoned for advice or will come in to attend to an emergency.
Nutrition is very important to a growing body and each week a healthy menu is developed by staff in consultation with the boarders. There is always plenty of fresh fruit and cold water available as well as a wide variety of food to suit all tastes. A lunch buffet has salads or sandwiches that you can make or you can choose to have the hot food option instead. Dinner is a fun time to talk about the day and relax with your extended family. Special birthday meals are also provided on your special day. Our dining room is also used for recreational activities and is often the hub of the social life of all of the girls.
