All activities and leadership roles are open to girls: they have the chance to participate, influence and lead. Tara capitalises on the scientific and social research about the different ways in which girls learn. We cater for relational based learning where girls solve issues through dialogue and are given a context to their learning with more sensory and emotive detail. Post-school students from all-girls schools are more likely to pursue tertiary study and careers in STEM, hold leadership positions and earn higher wages.
As a parent, choosing the right school for your daughter is one of the greatest gifts you can give her. Since 1897 Tara has been that choice. We are one of the oldest girls’ schools in Sydney. Our School has gained a reputation for offering extraordinary opportunities with world-class teachers and facilities. Tara offers an outstanding modern education that will lay the foundations for a happy and successful life for your daughter.
Small classes in the Junior School enable the strong focus on core literacy and numeracy skills to have the optimum effect.
In the Senior School, small classes combined with a breadth of subject choices enable individual attention to be given to students to develop their skills through regular feedback during class and with coursework, and be thoroughly prepared for examinations.
Tara is an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme (ELC - Year 6) and the Middle Years Programme (Years 7-10). Tara has outstanding Higher School Certificate results and we aim to optimise each girl’s ability to learn and develop as a strong, resilient young woman who leaves Tara well prepared to embrace life’s adventures.
Tara’s success stems from our highly successful parallel education model, outstanding passionate teachers, small class sizes, an unmatched level of individual attention, use of new technology, and a strong focus on balanced education.
Beyond the Classroom
Many parents and alumnae identify that one of the School’s greatest strengths is educating the ‘whole’ student. We provide girls with a balanced education through extensive academic and co-curricular opportunities. Students are supported and encouraged to explore a wide range of programs as they develop their skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. Tara has a strong culture of offering opportunities to empower students, including the Tara Enrichment Centre, debating and public speaking, performing and creative arts, sport and academic and social clubs. All students are encouraged to think globally with opportunities for cultural experiences and exchange programs abroad.
Tara is a school in which the Christian faith lives and has meaning and underpins all we do at Tara. Student care and support programs are absorbed into the daily life of the School. Our student engagement, mentoring, service learning, and house system ensures no girl goes under the radar and everyone is known. We invest in each student to
ensure there is a sense of connectedness and collaboration. Student leadership is viewed as a vital skill and experience at Tara. Student leadership programs are a great way to tap into student energy, to build self-respect and to create a caring School.
Tara celebrates a strong sense of community. This links in with House activities throughout the school year, including Chapel services, Carnivals, special assemblies and Celebration Speech Day. The Tara Alumnae Women of Influence Group provides an avenue for past students to stay in touch with each other and Tara. It provides networking opportunities and arranges reunions and other activities. Tara’s Parents & Friends Association consists of a number of organisations, allowing parents to participate in the life of the School. These include a Parents & Friends committee, Tara Dads Club, and various clubs linked to particular sports.
Campus and Facilities
Tara is located on 12 hectares of beautiful grounds and gardens in North Parramatta. Tara campus has undergone major refurbishment and development in the last five years. The amazing learning spaces are an integral part of framing exciting learning experiences, from dynamic classrooms, a fully equipped sports gymnasium; a pool; multiple playing fields; tennis, basketball and netball courts; movement room and fitness centre; rowing shed (offsite); an assembly and concert theatre; state-of-the-art library and resource centre; Senior Learning Centre; Chapel; Science and Technology laboratories; before and after school & vacation care centre; boarding house; canteen and cafeteria; and a drama, visual arts and music complex.
To the Stars
The study of Astronomy is an exciting aspect of Tara. Tara is the only school in Australia that offers a full and enriching program in Astronomy thanks to the Global Jet Watch telescope, the largest privately owned telescope in Australia, which has been built on School grounds in collaboration with Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Using this unique apparatus and research level observatory, students conduct astronomy and physics research, and complete STEM focused overseas study tours to America, visiting Kennedy Space Station and more.
